2. Other PFLAG groups

New Zealand

PFLAG Central - (Lower North Island)

We are a new group in Palmerston North, extending a welcome to parents, families and friends of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered persons. We provide a caring, safe and confidential place where people can share their difficulties, and support each other as they begin to understand and accept the family member they love. We also welcome parents who may not need support but may be able to offer wisdom and friendship. The love and support of their families is vital for young (and not so young), gay people to develop a sense of their own worth. All discussions are confidential and many people come to listen, not to talk.

PFlag promotes the health and well-being of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered persons, their families and friends through: support, education and advocacy. We provide an opportunity for dialogue about sexual orientation and gender identity, and act to create a society that is healthy and respectful of human diversity.

We usually meet quarterly. Our next meeting is in early February 2012 please email pflag@inspire.net.nz so that we can email details of venue, time etc. We encourage people to stay for a shared supper after our meetings (which are not long) as this is an important way of connecting and supporting each other.
